A Selection of French TV Series

Below is a selection of some excellent French shows to watch on TV, Netflix or Prime.

Spiral (2005-2020): “Engrenages” in French. Follows the work and the private lives of Paris police officers, lawyers and judges at the Palais de Justice, Paris. A French “Law and Order”. 8 seasons

The Bureau (2015-2020): “Le Bureau des Légendes” in French, revolves around the lives of agents of the DGSE (Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure), the French CIA. 5 seasons.

The Bonfire of Destiny (2019): “Le Bazar de la Charité” in French. After a devastating fire in 1897 Paris, three women find their lives upended by betrayal, deception and romantic turmoil. Inspired by real events. Miniseries (8 episodes).

Women at War (2022): “Les Combattantes” in French. In 1914, during WW1, the destinies of four women intersect. Miniseries (8 episodes).

The Returned (2012-2015): “Les Revenants” in French. Supernatural drama: In a small French mountain town many dead people reappear apparently alive and normal… 2 seasons.

Black Spot (2017-2019): “Zone Blanche” in French ( awkward translation!). A police chief and an eccentric new prosecutor investigate a string of grisly crimes and eerie phenomena in an isolated town at the edge of a forest. 2 seasons.

It's worth noting that Audrey Fleurot ( center of the picture), who stars in 3 of the TV series above, has become a very popular actress in France, and rightly so.

As a matter of fact, in a recent poll conducted by the famous French magazine Paris-Match, Audrey Fleurot is ranked number 1 in the top 30 of the French favorite actors/actresses.

I also like Camille Lou (left on the picture), born in 1992, and already a very promising actress. She stars in 2 of the shows above ( Women at War and The Bonfire).

This list is just a sample. There are plenty of good French shows on TV these days.
